The Characters

WILF:

Wilf is the cabin boy onboard the pirate's ship. He desperately wants to be a pirate but he sometimes wonders if this swashbuckling crew are the best people to learn from.  Wilf’s best friends are Jib (the ship’s monkey) and Pip (the Governor’s daughter).  Although it is not always appreciated, Wilf’s resourcefulness has helped the pirates escape from many a tight situation.

PIP:

Philippa is Governor Milhaven’s daughter.  Best known as Pip, she finds life in the little town a little boring and so sees the local pirates as a welcome source of adventure.  Although she loves her parents she’s not above stretching some of their rules if it will make her life more interesting.  Together with Wilf she often outwits all the adults around her.  As far as Pip is concerned Wilf and Jib are the only intelligent ones in town (she’s still not sure who’s smarter – the cabin boy or the monkey) and even they are sometimes a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to some of her more grandiose plans.

Note: Pip did not appear as a character in the original books but has a lot of potential in future developments.

CAPTAIN ARGENT:

The captain of the pirate's; Argent is brash, brave and excitable with a taste for life in the fast lane.  He loves everything about being a pirate, most especially looking like one.  He is a master of the long-winded, convoluted, complicated and often downright foolish plan, but you could never accuse him of not carrying out said foolish plan with STYLE!

The two biggest complications in Argent’s pirating life are the garrison of pirate catchers and his incompetent crew (the jury is still out on which of the two causes him the most problems).

The Crew:

d'Bloon: Probably the only real pirate of them all, the Captains right hand man, always ready to put a plan into action.

Old Gromet: A simple fisherman at heart, and the original owner of the pirate's "ship", he doesn't seem to realise that they are now pirates.

Hue: Unfortunate in almost every respect, the other pirates spend a lot of time trying to keep Hue out of trouble.

Tom & Harry: Background characters, pulling ropes, heaving too, falling in and so on. Always ready to help out, often the first in trouble.

The Cook: Fond of his food, his life is beset with people trying to stop him doing the one thing he likes, cooking.

JIB:

Jib is the ship’s monkey (although Captain Argent often wonders why the ship needs a monkey).  Jib lives up in the crow’s nest and basically hides anything of interest he can find.  Wilf is his best friend.  Jib is an unusually clever monkey with a gift for "acquiring" useful objects (treasure maps, jail keys, etc.).  He enjoys making the pirate catchers look silly, but he also gets a laugh out of puncturing the pompous posing of Captain Argent every now and again.

COMMANDER MUSKETT JACKSON:

A pirate catcher extraordinaire (or so he thinks.)  Commander Jackson is a square-jawed hero who excels at everything (swordsman, crack shot, cricket star) except catching pirates.   The most brilliant man in the entire garrison, although unfortunately that isn’t really saying very much.

Pirate Catchers:

Mr Froggin: Boson onboard the pirate catcher's ship, the finest ship in all these islands, working for the best pirate catcher in the land. It's not that Mr Froggin dislikes pirates especially, it’s just what he does for a job. Mr Froggin is a happy man and likes to do a good job.

The Garrison: A motley bunch at best...
basically, anyone on the island who either, doesn't run a shop or can't catch fish.

GOVERNOR MILHAVEN:

The Governor of the islands; Milhaven is a short, stout, amenable man, who craves nothing but a quiet life. Now if only he could solve the local pirate problem... then he could get on with his flower garden.

Mrs Milhaven:

The absolute power behind the throne. Mrs Milhaven is keen to modernise the town and make it a centre for all the latest trends and fashions.  As far as she can see, the pirates are standing in the way of progress and must therefore be dealt with in no uncertain terms.

THE PIRATE'S SHIP:

Originally christened "The Golden Hen", the pirate's "ship" was not exactly purpose built for pirating– she’s more of a converted fishing boat really.  However, what she lacks in size she makes up for in speed and having a small manoeuvrable boat has saved the crew from sticky situations more than a few times.
